Please remember “White Rock Community Church” – our LPD “Church” of the Week.
Thanks to Anna (Ben) Crumback at Sointula Community Church for producing the Church of the Week!

Dear friends,

Good Thursday morning,

With the long weekend ahead, I thought that I would send my weekly greetings a day earlier.

In a recent conversation, a young father wanted my opinion on counsel he had received from his pastor. Feeling stretched between responsibilities of being a man of God, a husband, a father, serving as a small group leader/shepherd and establishing his vocation as a recent college grad, he had spoken to his pastor about stepping back from small group leadership.

The pastor responded with a challenge to this young man, stating that he had to, “prioritize his calling over his career.” Though I respect this pastor, I do not agree with his counsel.

As one who believes in the “priesthood of all believers,” I firmly believe that this young man’s calling is his “career,” – or his vocation.

The role of the church is not simply to “use” and to serve people through programs – is also very much to equip people for service – to live for Christ in their various vocations.

I encouraged this young man, and assured him of my prayers for him as he walks with God, and seeks to honour Him through his vocation.

This young man’s pastor is a fine person, but he shows symptoms of losing touch with the world in which God has placed people – to do their vocations as unto the Lord and to be a positive witness to Christ.

Gordon MacDonald reminds us of the need to understand and to appreciate the world and life stage of those we serve in his article, “Incarnate Preaching.” It provides food for thought – here is the link:Incarnate_Preaching_Gordon_MacDonald.pdf
