MOUNTAIN VIEW

CHURCH

our LPD Church of the Week

Mountain View Church is located in Chilliwack, and they meet at the Evergreen Centre on Sundays.

Pastor Darryn (Kim) Botha immigrated to Canada from South Africa to pastor Mountain View Church in 2017. Darryn is the brother-in-law of Evans (Donnae) Hundermark. A family visit to Canada led to the call of Darryn, as Evans and Donnae moved on to pastor in Foremost, Alberta.

We are thankful for the ministry of Mountain View, and join them in praying for outreach to their community in Christ’s Name.

Mountain View is currently partnering with New Living Assembly, a sister Evangelical Free Church in Chilliwack,  for joint worship and sharing a sermon series titled, “The Language of Love.” This partnership began when NLA, which ministers to the growing Filipino Community, was left without a place to meet due to the local flooding. They joined with Mountain View for a few weeks, and this partnership has proved to be a mutual blessing.

In Non-essentials Charity…
In recent days, our nation has been focused on the “truckers’ convoy” and protests in Ottawa, Toronto, the Coutts, Alberta border crossing, the Ambassador Bridge border crossing in Ontario, and various communities across our nation.

Opinions vary as to what to do. I see some “friends” on Facebook supporting the truckers and attending rallies. Others rally against the truckers, writing them off as “lawless” and  “phobic” in some way. Public opinion is both varied and entrenched.

We have all dealt with some difference of opinion and disunity over this prolonged season of COVID. Families can be divided. Church families can be divided. Pastors and leaders are wearied seeking to be peacemakers and to “keep the main thing the main thing” as a church.

As EFCC Churches, our motto is, “In essentials unity; in non-essentials charity; in all things Jesus Christ.”

Tim Stewart (Emily) pastors Parkdale EFC in Victoria. As a pastor, he has had to navigate conflicting opinions about COVID and related protocols, and he recently posted an insightful article, titled, “How to Disagree.” In this, he provides insightful commentary on the tensions we are facing as a nation and also helpful biblical principles for handling disagreement within the local church.

Tim has kindly given permission for me to share this article, and I know that you will find this helpful. Here is the link: “HOW TO DISAGREE.” how-to-disagree

Thank you to Rick and Sandy McAllister
This Sunday, Rick and Sandy McAllister will retire from their ministry pastoring Wildwood Community Church in Bowser, BC. We are thankful for them as family, friends and co-workers in Christ, and we have appreciated their faithful ministry at both Wildwood Community Church and earlier at Sointula Community Church. Thank you Rick and Sandy, and blessings in your next season of life and ministry!

COVID UPDATE

There are no new mandates for churches this week. We do anticipate an update on Tuesday, February 15, and will update you with any relevant changes and information. Please see the ongoing policies for worship services : covid-19/info/restrictions#new
Mask Mandate: Masks are required for all indoor settings including faith services.   The mask is required for everyone 5 years  of age and older, and includes choirs.  Masks can be removed to speak or pray up front if social distancing is maintained, or for communion.

Gathering and Events: Faith Services must now limit capacity to 50% of seating capacity unless the church decides to require everyone in attendance to provide proof of vaccine.  In calculating seating capacity it would be wise to use the load occupancy of the facility in which  the service will be held.  (This number is the seating capacity, as determined by the Fire Marshal, and posted in your church). This number will in most cases be higher than the number of seats you have set up in your church.

Please check our LPD Website to keep up to date with the latest regulations and protocols: https://www.lpd-efcc.ca/covid-19/
For personal assistance regarding COVID Policy and the Canadian Recovery Hiring Program (CHRP) and COVID Protocols, please contact Josephine at our district office.
